O-week is here guys! This is one of the most exciting and fun times of the whole year. If you are a new student at La Trobe, welcome to what will be your home for the next years. For the rest of us returning for semester two, I hope you had a great break. O-week is the best opportunity to meet new people and get to know the university if it is your first time here. The La Trobe Student Union is always running a bunch of events during the following days. Here are a few things to keep an eye on and make the most of this week.
G’Day Drinks for International Students
This is an event for new international students. It is a great chance to meet new people and start making friends from day one at uni. This is happening at the Eagle bar today, Monday 17 July from 5 pm. There will be free drinks, food and cool music. If you want to know more, visit the Facebook event page.
MASO Orientation Seminar
The Mature Age Student Organisation is holding a workshop with a lot of helpful tips for mature age students. They will give you some top advice to make your life in uni easier, and you’ll get the chance to meet other mature age students as well! The event will take place in the Union Hall Boardroom, on 19 July, from 4 pm to 6 pm. Take a look at the full details here.
Joining a club or society at La Trobe is one of the best ways to make friends and have fun! During the Clubs Festival, all societies will have a stall, so you can take a look at the ones you like the most and join. There will be free food, live music, and a bunch of freebies as usual. The event will be on Tuesday 25 July, from 11 am to 2 pm in the Sports Centre. Go to the Facebook event to see all of the info.
Mid-Year Welcome Party
University is also the best time to party and get a little bit loose sometimes! The LTSU has organised a huge party at the Carlton Club on July 27. There will be some free drinks, free food and plenty of good music, so make sure you come along! Visit the event’s page for more information, and get your tickets soon before its sold out.
Going to these and other Orientation week events will make your transition into uni a lot smoother, so make sure you attend. I didn’t go to any of my O-week events when I entered uni and I was so lost for the first few weeks, so trust me. If you need more information on Orientation week, visit uni’s webpage. You can also visit the Student’s Union webpage to check out more events. Enjoy all of these events and good luck with the start of your semester! See you in another post.
