Need a helping hand and don’t know where to go? Need some questions answered or extra support with your studies and uni life? No need to despair my friends, as La Trobe has a range of services to support you during your time at university! There’s someone to assist you out with almost anything you can think of. Here are some of the most important services that you can use whenever you need them.
Student Development Advising Program
The Student Development Advisers, or SDAs, are here to help you out get the maximum out of uni. If you don’t know where to go, this is the place to get started. They can assist you with time management, study planning, or just lead you the right way when you need any other university service. If you have any issues that are affecting your life and peace of mind, there is a Counselling service available for you. They provide psychological and emotional support to students going through hard times. These meetings are strictly confidential and free, so you can drop in whenever you need to. Whether you’re looking for part time gig, graduate positions or your first big job, the Career Ready service is here to help! Career Ready is here to make your transition from university into the workplace a whole lot easier. They have a bunch of online information that you can look at, including tips on resume writing, job applications, job searching, and more! They even have a website with work opportunities called CareerHub! They also have career advisers running appointments and drop in sessions. They can help you with your job search in a more personal and tailored way. Find out more about Career Ready here.
Financial Support and Counselling
If you are experiencing financial hardship and need some support to continue your studies, the university has a range of loans and grants to help you out! You can receive up to $4000 to help you get back on your feet and keep studying. Note that these grants are subject to the university’s approval. On the other hand, if you are in need some financial counselling, the Student Union comes in handy. They have advisers to listen to your financial problems and tell you what are your best options. They can help you with budgeting, loans and grants applications, and give you advice on debt. Visit the Student Union’s website to view their availability.
The Student Union has free legal advice for you on campus! If you are having any problems that require the assistance of a lawyer, you can make an appointment with them. They can help you deal with your landlord or accomodation, fines, Centrelink, and many other things. Visit the LTSU for more information and view their schedule.
Hopefully everything is running smooth and you don’t have to access these services. But just in case, it’s good to be aware that they exist.
